Capri Island is really a piece of Heaven on Earth. We spent three nights & three full days exploring this magnificent Island.
When choosing accommodation you should know that there are two main parts of the Island to choose from: Capri town or Anacapri. (I would not consider Marina Grande as a place to base yourself as it is not pretty and is constantly inundated with tourists entering and leaving the Island)
Capri town is a small, upmarket, whitewashed town that exudes wealth and fame. It is lined with expensive five start hotels, designer shops, chic cafes and and high-end restaurants. It is also a very busy part of the island as it attracts most of the day-trippers and designer-shopping tourists.
The other part of the island is Anacapri, nestled higher up. It is also a pretty, whitewashed town and far more affordable and tranquil than the busy town of Capri.
We chose Anacapri over Capri as glitzy tourism isn't really our thing. Anacapri was far more central to the things that interested us like, nature walks, Mount Solaro and visiting San Michele Villa etc. Thanks to Tripadvisor, we found a lovely B&B, called Il Giardino dell'Arte, which is located about a 20 minute walk away from Anacapri center. To be honest, you need a great sense of direction to find your way into Anacapri town from this B&B, as you need to navigate your way through the maze of narrow, cobblestone alleyways. Lucky for me I married a man with excellent GPS neurons!
We really loved this B&B. It is run by a wonderful Italian family, Franco and his two lovely daughters. They take pride in what they do and are so attentive and kind to their guests. The location is about a one kilometer walk from Anacapri center and so really away from it all. They offer a free pick up from Grand Marina when you arrive and a drop you off back to the Marina when you leave.
The grounds are set in serene and beautiful gardens tended lovingly by Franco, and with jaw-dropping views of the sea. Every unit, has a spacious & clean bedroom & bathroom and an outdoor patio for relaxing and soaking up the "Anacapri magical vibes". The WiFi works perfectly throughout the property.
Breakfasts are served in the gardens and are fresh and plentiful. The pastries are baked every morning.... what a treat!
In the evenings, you are blessed with the most beautiful ocean sunsets from the gardens.... absolutely stunning!
My husband sprained his foot on our second last day in Capri. Franco's daughter took us to the hospital and stayed with us to make sure we were OK. As I said, wonderful people, who really care about their customers!! Thanks to Franco & his family, we experienced the best of Italian hospitality......
