Amalfi Coast - Praiano Fiordo di Furore / Emerald Grotto / Marina di Praia

We were waiting for our SITA bus just outside our hotel Villa Maria Pia to take us to Fiordo di Furore beach. We were on vacation and were not feeling rushed, the weather was sunny and warm, so we said to each other …. let's walk!! So we left the bus stop and started walking...

We really had no idea how far it was to Fiordo di Furore beach, but decided to walk anyway! We walked along the side of the road (which isn't ideal) as there isn’t a foot path and we had to be careful of the cars! The views though were gorgeous and walking allowed us to savour those picture perfect sea views at a more relaxed pace. It only took us about one hour of walking on the Amalfi Coast road until we reached Fiordo di Furore beach. The beach is really very magical. It is a small beach and it is completely shady by midday and so if you are looking for sunshine on this small piece of beach, you need to come in the morning hours. The beach itself was a little dirty but the overall setting is just gorgeous! Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area...

We didn't swim and decided to continue our walk, continuing leisurely for another half an hour on the road until we reached the Emerald Grotto (Grotta dello Smeraldo). We decided to go down and check it out. We had already seen the beautiful Blue Grotto on Capri Island and were not expecting much from this one, especially since it was so much cheaper than the Blue Grotto. However once inside, we were very pleasantly surprised. The water color was a fluorescent blue and the short ride was great! Far more value for money than the Blue Grotto in Capri and at a third of the price. Having said that, I would still do both!!!

Once back up on the Amalfi road, we decided this time to take the SITA bus back to our hotel as we needed all our energy for the next part of our day! Our last stop before dinner was the small beach called Marina di Praia beach (a 10 minute walk from our hotel). On this tiny beach, we relaxed on the lounge chairs under sun umbrellas for a very reasonable fee and swam in the sparkly cold aqua sea! The beach was practically empty so it was a total delight! Next to the beach is a lovely cafe, Pirata and so before we head back to our hotel, we bought cocktails as our pre-dinner drinks and just watched the vast blue ocean before us...

The Pirata cafe next to the beach... Sublime!

Life is tough on the Amalfi Coast!!

Enjoy !!
