We went to Lake Garda for four days in October 2015. We flew into Milan on a cheap Easyjet flight and straight away picked up our rental car & drove directly to Salo town on Garda lake. The drive from the airport to our accomodation took us around 2 hours.
Since we landed in the evening, I wanted to find accomodation that was nestled in a pretty town but not too far from the highway since I didn't want to navigate the windy Garda roads late at night.
After much deliberation, I chose B&B Agriturismo Villa Bissiniga. To stay in Agriturismo Villa Bissiniga, you need a car. I don't think you can get there without one. It is located up on a hill which means from the dining room, balcony above and a few of the bedrooms, you can get a splendid view of the lake and the neighbouring villages. Watching the sunset from the balcony above and the lights turn on and reflect on the lake is magical.
The hotel offers free parking, beautiful gardens, a swimming pool, old-charm bedrooms with lovely bathrooms and a delicious breakfast in the most exquisite setting... The breakfast room reminded me of an old-world European ballroom... decorated with ornate mural ceilings and walls, with large windows offering lake Garda views. The breakfast itself, was plentiful but was the same every day. For an extra fee, you can also order dinner here as well. We did one night but since we are not big meat eaters, we were limited in what we could eat as it was a set menu.
I recommended friends to this beautiful, reasonable cost accomodation and they said it was the best accomodation in their three week trip to Italy.
Try it out for yourself if you are travelling in the area... It is special...
Enjoy
