After breakfast, we took the train to Vernazza (our favorite town in Cinque Terre). We walked around a little before starting our hike. It is such a quaint and picturesque town, and it has the yummiest restaurant that is located in a old castle overlooking the Mediterranean Sea (Belforte restaurant.... but make sure you book in advance).

See the blue umbrellas?? That's Belforte restaurant in Vernazza!!!

The walk between Vernazza to Corniglia is about 4 kms and takes just under 2 hours. If you have knee problems, then I suggest you walk in this direction towards Corniglia.

Picturesque Corniglia perched up on a hill...

For those starting from Vernazza the path is on the right hand side of the main street and can be recognized from the signs indicating the path to Monterosso on the other side of the road. The path leaves the main street and starts climbing immediately on an old path between the two villages. The route passes through some olive groves with excellent views ahead to Corniglia and the next village south, Manarola. The path soon levels out before descending into Corniglia. When you reach the road, turn right and the village centre is a few minutes walk away.

We had plans to continue the next walk to Manarola, but had enough walking for one day!! We had coffee in a cute cafe overlooking the sea and then made our way to the train station.

To catch the train back, you need to walk down 382 steps.... not great for the knees!!

When we head back to Levanto, we strolled around this pretty town.

Enjoy!

Lovely Levanto was where we stayed during our four day visit to Cinque Terre.

My favourite town, Vernazza

Fortunately we live close to Europe and try to travel a few times during the year. When I am not travelling, I am dreaming and planning my next destination! For me, the planning is as enjoyable as the actual trip. I hope you enjoy my blog of some of our best day trips!
